Tyra was an ancient Greek city founded in the late 6th century BCE on the west coast of the Dniester estuary. Due to its strategic location, it was an important trading port on the route between the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean. In the Middle Ages, the city was newly founded and has been known under different names (e.g. Bilhorod, Akkerman). The property is a complex of monuments including the medieval Akkerman fortress and remains of the ancient city.
